China to merge CSSC and CSIC
China has merged two of its giant state-owned shipbuilding firms to create a CNY700bn ($97.4b) company. China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) had previously been one state-owned enterprise (SOE), but were split in 1999. After months of discussions and rumours, the firms were again made one in a ceremony in Shanghai.
T Parker Host acquires Transmarine Navigation
US shipping company T Parker Host has acquired Transmarine Navigation Corporation, a US-based tramp ship agency. The merger, effective from 1 July 2025, unites two leading ship agencies to form what the companies claim is the “largest independent tramp ship agency” in the US. The deal combines more than 85 years of Transmarine’s expertise along the Pacific corridor with Host’s century-long legacy on the US East and Gulf Coasts.
Nissen Kaiun acquires stake in Econowind
Japanese shipping company Nissen Kaiun has acquired a stake in Dutch company Econowind, which provides wind-assisted shipping propulsion technology. Econowind has developed the VentoFoil, a wind-assist device designed to facilitate decarbonisation in the shipping sector. The patented technology employs suction-based airflow control to provide scalable and cost-effective energy savings, contributing to a practical approach to maritime decarbonisation.
Wärtsilä to divest Marine Electrical Systems
Wärtsilä has announced the divestment of its Marine Electrical Systems business to VINCI Energies, a multi-technical solutions and services provider. The Marine Electrical Systems division, known for its specialised electrical systems integration for vessels, operates as part of Wärtsilä Portfolio Business.
